The Company has specialised during the last 15 years in locating and gaining planning consents on urban and suburban sites suitable for shops with filling stations and car wash centres on busy main roads. The Company is unique in its approach to locating and developing new sites in conjunction with Little Chef/ McDonald's and budget hotels. Sites that are strategically located have a particularly low level of competition and are able to sell a c-store range of products and fuel at full retail price.

Throughout its operation the Company is committed to the philosophy of "hands on" management control coupled with accurate forecasting and reporting systems. Constant attention to detail and rigorous management supervision ensures the highest standards and goals for which the Company strives. This discipline is maintained by senior management who conduct regular site inspections seven days a week. This process not only ensures a constant monitoring of day-to-day operations, but also provides an effective communication with customers, sales assistants and site managers. On these visits, sales performance is reviewed, promotional incentives to increase sales discussed and general maintenance requirements supervised. Customer service and value for money are the key factors to the success of its retailing operations. The Company is committed to providing the very best facilities offering fast, efficient equipment on the forecourt, the latest car wash facilities and convenience stores designed to appeal to the consumer with the widest possible choice of products all at competitive prices. The majority of stores have an ATM, bakery and off licence.


In 1998 the strategy changed when it became apparent that the growth in the sector would be driven by convenience stores open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In order to fund a £100 million programme, new investors were sought to enable the purchase of 0.5 to 4-acre greenfield plots and develop state-of-the-art centres. The Company restructured increasing substantially its capital base due to a substantial cash investment by new shareholders.
